Uranium Energy Corp Launches Production at Burke Hollow, Expanding US Nuclear Fuel Capacity

CORPUS CHRISTI, April 8 — Uranium Energy Corp (UEC) has officially commenced production at its Burke Hollow project in Texas, marking the first new in-situ recovery (ISR) uranium mining operation in the United States in over a decade.

The project received regulatory approval from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), allowing UEC to begin operations at what is now recognised as the world’s newest ISR uranium mine.

This milestone strengthens UEC’s position in the domestic uranium sector, as the company now operates two of its three planned ISR hub-and-spoke production platforms across the United States.

UEC President and CEO Amir Adnani described the launch as a significant achievement, noting that Burke Hollow has progressed from an early-stage discovery in 2012 to full production in 2026.

He added that with two ISR operations currently producing and another project scheduled for launch in 2027, the company is building a scalable production platform aligned with strengthening uranium market fundamentals and growing policy support for domestic nuclear fuel supply.

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright highlighted the broader significance of the development, stating that increased domestic uranium production is essential for establishing a secure nuclear fuel cycle and enhancing national energy security.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott also welcomed the project, describing it as a major addition to the state’s energy sector and reinforcing Texas’ role as a leading energy producer.

The Burke Hollow site spans approximately 20,000 acres, with only about half explored to date, offering substantial long-term development potential through phased expansion.

Production from the site will be processed at the Hobson Central Processing Plant, which is licensed to produce up to 4 million pounds of uranium annually.

UEC’s Vice President of Environmental, Health and Safety in Texas, Craig Wall, said the TCEQ approval reflects the company’s technical capabilities and adherence to regulatory standards throughout the development process.

He noted that operational teams are now focused on safely ramping up production and expanding wellfield infrastructure to support future growth.

Overall, the launch of Burke Hollow represents a key step in strengthening the United States’ domestic energy supply chain, particularly in the nuclear sector, as the country seeks to enhance long-term energy security and reduce reliance on external sources.
