Envision Energy and AMEA Power Expand Egypt Wind Portfolio to 1GW with New 500MW Project
PETALING JAYA: Global green technology company Envision Energy and UAE-based renewable energy developer AMEA Power have strengthened their strategic partnership with the signing of an agreement to develop the 500-megawatt (MW) Amunet II wind project in Egypt.
The announcement was made during the Africa Energy Forum (AEF) 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa, marking another milestone in Egypt’s efforts to accelerate its transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
Amunet II is AMEA Power’s second utility-scale wind project in Egypt. Once completed, the company’s total wind generation capacity in the country will reach one gigawatt (GW), further supporting Egypt’s ambitious renewable energy targets.
The new agreement builds on the success of the 500MW Ras Ghareb Wind Power Plant, which was officially commissioned in June 2025.
The project, recognised as Africa’s largest wind farm, demonstrated AMEA Power’s ability to develop and deliver large-scale renewable energy facilities efficiently while reinforcing investor confidence in Egypt’s growing green energy sector.
The collaboration with Envision Energy also highlighted the scalability and bankability of major renewable energy developments in the region.
Envision Energy Senior Vice President Kane Xu said the partnership between the two companies has evolved significantly over the years.
According to him, what began as a project-based collaboration has transformed into a long-term strategic alliance built on trust, innovation and shared value creation.
“From Amunet I to Amunet II, our partnership with AMEA Power has evolved into a strategic collaboration founded on trust, innovation and long-term value creation.
“This project demonstrates how global partnerships can scale effectively and accelerate the global energy transition,” he said.
Xu added that Egypt is becoming increasingly important in the global clean energy landscape due to its strategic location and strong commitment to renewable energy development.
As a result, Envision Energy plans to continue leveraging its advanced technologies and global expertise to provide efficient and reliable clean energy solutions across Egypt and the wider Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
He said the company remains committed to supporting sustainable development and helping countries reduce their dependence on fossil fuels.
Meanwhile, AMEA Power chairman Hussain Al Nowais described the successful completion of the Ras Ghareb project as proof that strong partnerships can create meaningful impact within the renewable energy sector.
He said the Amunet II project represents the next phase of cooperation between AMEA Power and Envision Energy while reflecting the company’s confidence in Egypt’s renewable energy industry.
“The successful delivery of our 500MW wind project in Ras Ghareb showed what can be achieved when strong partners share the same vision and commitment.
“Amunet II marks the next chapter of our collaboration with Envision Energy and demonstrates our continued confidence in Egypt’s renewable energy sector,” he said.
According to Al Nowais, the combined projects will increase AMEA Power’s wind portfolio in Egypt to 1GW, making the company one of the country’s key renewable energy players.
Beyond supporting Egypt’s energy transition, the projects are expected to create jobs, attract additional investments and generate long-term economic and social benefits.
With increasing investment in renewable energy infrastructure and stronger international partnerships, Egypt is steadily positioning itself as one of the leading clean energy hubs in Africa and the Middle East, reinforcing its role in the global transition towards a low-carbon economy.
