AMK Says Questions on Felda Settlers’ Day Postponement Should Be Directed to Felda Chairman

PADANG RENGAS: Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) has insisted that questions surrounding the postponement of the Felda Settlers’ Day celebration in Johor should be directed to Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

Its chief, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, said he would not speculate or make assumptions regarding the matter until an official explanation is provided by the Felda leadership.

According to him, attempts by certain parties to portray the postponement as a directive from the federal government are inappropriate, as the matter falls under Felda’s jurisdiction.

“I cannot provide any comment until there is a clear explanation from the Felda chairman.

“The chairman of Felda is Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, so the question should be addressed directly to him,” he told reporters after attending an appreciation ceremony involving government agencies and the staff of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tun Perak here today.

Muhammad Kamil was responding to questions regarding a letter that has been circulating on social media concerning the postponement of the Felda Settlers’ Day celebration.

The event was originally scheduled to take place on June 20 and 21 at Felda Ulu Belitong in Johor.

The letter, dated June 16, was reportedly sent by Felda to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi informing him of the decision to postpone the programme.

The document sparked speculation that the postponement may have been linked to political disagreements between major parties aligned with the federal and state governments.

However, Muhammad Kamil declined to comment on such claims and stressed the importance of obtaining clarification from Felda before drawing conclusions.

“I think we should be fair and give the responsible party the opportunity to explain the situation.

“We should not jump to conclusions or blame anyone without first knowing the facts,” he said.

On a separate matter, he said AMK would focus on issues of political stability and public priorities during campaigning for the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

He said the youth wing intends to remind voters that elections should be about choosing representatives who are committed to serving the people rather than engaging in political manoeuvring.

“We want voters to consider what the real priorities are.

“In Johor, for example, there is still about a year remaining in the current administration, yet questions about stability are being raised and calls for elections are made.

“So where exactly is the instability in Johor?” he asked.

Muhammad Kamil argued that a similar situation was unfolding in Negeri Sembilan, where elections were not triggered by corruption scandals, abuse of power or major governance failures.

Instead, he claimed, the situation arose from political struggles among certain groups seeking to create instability for their own interests.

“Elections should not become instruments for fulfilling political ambitions.

“People should choose representatives who focus on development, welfare and the well-being of society rather than leaders who are preoccupied with political calculations,” he said.

He added that AMK would continue engaging with voters to explain the party’s stance on current issues, including the importance of maintaining political stability and ensuring smooth governance.

Muhammad Kamil expressed confidence that Malaysians are increasingly mature in their political choices and would support leaders who prioritise public interests over narrow political agendas.
