Johor Polls: DAP Fields Local Candidate Chu Poh Yee for Mengkibol State Seat

KLUANG: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has officially named DAP Johor publicity secretary Chu Poh Yee as its candidate for the Mengkibol state seat in the upcoming Johor state election.

The announcement was made by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook during a special event held along Jalan Ismail here tonight.

Anthony said the 33-year-old candidate was selected based on her experience, commitment and strong understanding of local issues, adding that she is well positioned to continue the party’s work in the constituency.

He noted that Poh Yee, a Kluang native, has long been involved in community activities and possesses a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of local residents.

“She will replace incumbent Chew Chong Sin, who is expected to contest the Labis parliamentary seat in the 16th General Election.

“We believe Chu Poh Yee has the capability to continue the good work that has been established and effectively represent the voice of the people in Mengkibol,” he said in his speech.

Also present at the event were Johor DAP chairman Teo Nie Ching and Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi.

Anthony said the decision to field a younger candidate reflects the coalition’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of leaders capable of bringing fresh perspectives to politics and governance.

He said DAP and PH are focused on ensuring leadership renewal takes place in an orderly manner so that experienced and younger leaders can work together to serve the people.

Meanwhile, Poh Yee described her candidacy as a major responsibility and pledged to give her best if entrusted with the mandate.

She said although she had once left Kluang to pursue her studies and career opportunities elsewhere, she always intended to return and contribute to her hometown.

“Like many young people, I left Kluang to further my education and gain experience.

“But I chose to return because I believe this district has tremendous potential and I want to contribute to its growth,” she said.

Poh Yee said Mengkibol and Kluang have significant opportunities for development in areas such as investment, education, local businesses and community development.

As such, she intends to focus on creating quality employment opportunities and improving the well-being of residents should she be elected.

“People here are not looking only for political stability.

“They also want better jobs, sustainable development and a brighter future for their children.

“That is what I hope to fight for together with the people of Mengkibol,” she said.

She also promised to remain accessible to constituents and to ensure that the concerns of residents are heard and addressed effectively.

The upcoming Johor state election is expected to see intense competition among major political parties, with Mengkibol emerging as one of the constituencies closely watched by political observers following PH’s decision to introduce a new candidate.
