Tabung Haji Confirms Five Malaysian Pilgrims Have Died During Haj Season

MAKKAH: Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has confirmed that the number of Malaysian pilgrims who have died in the Holy Land during this year’s haj season has increased to five following two additional deaths involving pilgrims from flight group KT12.

In a statement issued today, TH said both pilgrims, who were staying at Al Kiswah Hotel, passed away on Monday and Wednesday due to health complications.

According to the statement, a 72-year-old female pilgrim from Sitiawan, Perak who travelled with her cousin to perform the haj pilgrimage died on Monday after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

“She was pronounced dead at King Abdul Aziz Hospital on May 12 at approximately 12.36pm,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, a 67-year-old male pilgrim from Kuantan, Pahang who performed the pilgrimage with his wife died on Wednesday due to a lung infection.

He was pronounced dead at the Makkah Medical Centre at about 10pm.

TH said funeral arrangements for both pilgrims were completed, including funeral prayers at the Grand Mosque, before the bodies were laid to rest at Al Sharayea Cemetery after all necessary documentation procedures were finalised.

The organisation also extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed that their souls would be blessed and placed among the faithful.

This year’s haj season has seen thousands of Malaysian pilgrims travel to the Holy Land to perform the fifth pillar of Islam, with TH continuing to monitor their health and welfare throughout the pilgrimage period.

At the same time, TH reminded pilgrims to prioritise their health, especially due to the hot weather conditions and physically demanding religious activities during the haj season.

Malaysian haj authorities are also continuing to strengthen health monitoring and medical assistance to ensure the well-being of pilgrims remains protected throughout the pilgrimage period.
