Joshua Lim Retains Junior Golf Crown After Successful Title Defence

KUALA LUMPUR: Rising Malaysian golf talent Joshua Lim once again showcased his quality after successfully defending his title at the Junior Invitational Golf Championship 2026 held at The Royal Selangor Golf Club today.

Joshua completed the three-day tournament with a total score of 215 strokes after facing intense competition from Singapore’s Reyes Halim and South Korea’s Hanjaeho.

Reyes also finished with 215 strokes before Joshua secured victory through a playoff, while Hanjaeho claimed third place with an overall score of 218.

The triumph allowed Joshua to successfully retain the title he won last year, further strengthening his reputation as one of Malaysia’s top junior golfers.

Joshua said the Singaporean golfer posed a major challenge throughout the tournament, particularly with his highly consistent short game.

“He played very well throughout the event and his short game was extremely impressive. I had to stay focused until the very end,” he said after the competition.

He added that the playoff round proved demanding as both players were already exhausted after several intense rounds of competition.

“Both of us were tired during the playoff and the result could have gone either way. I’m thankful I managed to finish it with a win,” he said.

Joshua had also won the previous edition after recording 217 strokes to beat challengers from Taiwan and South Korea.

The latest victory now serves as a confidence boost ahead of his upcoming tournament in Singapore scheduled in two weeks’ time.

He is set to compete in an American college camp-style tournament expected to feature stronger young players from several countries.

“The competition there will definitely be tougher, but this victory gives me greater confidence heading into the next challenge,” he said.

In the women’s category, Singaporean golfer Chloe Ng emerged champion after recording a total of 224 strokes.

Malaysia’s Bernice Hwang Ee Xuan finished second with 226 strokes while another Singaporean player, Anjanette Tan secured third place with 227 strokes.

Joshua’s consistent performances continue to provide a positive outlook for the development of junior golf in Malaysia as the country works towards producing more internationally competitive young talents.
