Aizat Amdan, SOG and Yuna unite for emotionally charged cross-genre single ‘Ajar Aku’

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian singer-songwriter Aizat Amdan has introduced a fresh musical direction through his latest single Ajar Aku, blending alternative pop, emotional ballad elements and post-hardcore influences alongside Malaysian band Sekumpulan Orang Gila (SOG) and international singer Yuna.

The collaboration was born from an unplanned creative moment during Aizat’s Dari Studio podcast last year when SOG appeared as invited guests.

According to Aizat Amdan, a casual conversation about music and personal experiences slowly evolved into a spontaneous songwriting session.

“We were initially just talking about music and our journeys in the industry, but eventually ideas for the song started coming naturally.

“That moment eventually became Ajar Aku, which later developed into a much bigger collaboration,” he said.

The song explores themes surrounding human ego, self-acceptance and personal growth while encouraging listeners to reflect on emotional maturity and relationships.

The involvement of Yuna added another emotional layer to the track, with her soft vocal delivery complementing the musical chemistry between Aizat and SOG.

Apart from recording vocals, Yuna also contributed to the art direction of the official music video, which was directed by her husband, Adam Sinclair.

Aizat revealed that Yuna was working on material for her upcoming album at Kasi Gegar Entertainment’s studio before his brother, Anas Amdan, introduced the demo to her.

Yuna said she was immediately drawn to the emotional strength of the song even though the early demo version used an AI-generated female voice as a temporary guide.

“I’m personally not a big fan of AI in music because music should come from genuine human feelings and experiences.

“So I immediately told them to replace the AI demo with my own vocals,” she said.

She added that the recording process with Aizat and SOG turned out to be both enjoyable and creatively fulfilling.

Meanwhile, Aizat admitted that Yuna’s involvement gave the song a stronger emotional identity and a more sincere overall feel.

Interestingly, Ajar Aku also brings together three winners of Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL) in a single project.

Sekumpulan Orang Gila won AJL in 2022 through Pelukan Angkasa featuring Shila Amzah, while Aizat Amdan emerged victorious in 2009 with Pergi.

Meanwhile, Yuna won the prestigious competition in 2012 with Terukir Di Bintang, a song famously performed by Aizat during the grand finale.

The single Ajar Aku is now available on all major streaming platforms, with its official music video also released for public viewing.
