MIC’s 80th Anniversary Celebration To Feature Community-Focused Programmes Nationwide
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Indian Congress will roll out a series of community-based programmes across the country in conjunction with the party’s 80th anniversary celebration beginning May 21.
MIC president S A Vigneswaran said the celebration will feature various activities including family-oriented programmes, health camps, sporting events, speech competitions and community dialogue sessions.
According to him, the programmes will take place in multiple states before culminating in a grand celebration in Kuala Lumpur on July 26.
He said the anniversary celebration is not only intended to commemorate MIC’s history but also to strengthen the party’s relationship with the Indian community in Malaysia.
“We want the public to reflect on MIC’s role in national development and the party’s continued efforts in supporting the Indian community over the decades,” he said during a media briefing on the celebration plans.
S A Vigneswaran said that despite facing political challenges and changes in the national landscape, MIC continues to play an active role in assisting the community through various welfare and social initiatives.
He said these efforts include educational assistance, food aid programmes, healthcare initiatives and other forms of community support.
According to him, MIC remains relevant as a political platform representing the voice and interests of the Indian community in Malaysia.
He added that continued commitment from party leaders and members is essential to ensure the party’s struggle and contributions continue into the future.
He also stressed the importance of youth participation within the party, including members from MIC Youth, MIC Wanita, MIC Putera and MIC Puteri.
According to him, younger generations should be given opportunities to lead and continue the party’s struggle in facing future political and social challenges.
