Majlis Amanah Rakyat Orders Comprehensive Review at Kolej Poly-Tech MARA to Strengthen Student Safety
KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has instructed Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (KPTM) to carry out a comprehensive review of safety and student welfare across all institutions under its management following a recent incident that raised concerns.
Its chairman, Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said the directive aims to identify any gaps or weaknesses in institutional systems and ensure they are addressed effectively.
He explained that the review would cover various aspects, including security procedures, student monitoring and welfare support mechanisms, to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
“We want all KPTM institutions to conduct a thorough assessment so that any areas for improvement can be identified early,” he said after attending MARA’s 60th anniversary celebration in Kuala Lumpur.
He added that a proactive approach is essential to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, while maintaining public confidence in educational institutions.
At the same time, he noted that MARA and KPTM had taken immediate steps to assist the family of the affected student.
The support included initial assistance related to funeral arrangements and other necessary matters.
According to him, the institution’s management had reached out directly to the family to ensure their needs were addressed appropriately.
He also emphasised that further investigation into the case is being handled by the authorities, with MARA fully cooperating to facilitate the process.
“We leave the investigation entirely to the police as it involves criminal elements,” he said.
The incident was described as deeply distressing and had a significant emotional impact on the MARA community.
He extended condolences to the victim’s family and expressed hope that they would be given strength during this difficult time.
In a related development, police have detained several individuals to assist with the investigation, including two young men and an elderly couple, with remand periods set according to investigative needs.
The case has also sparked broader discussions on the importance of strengthening safety measures in educational institutions, particularly in ensuring the well-being of students remains a top priority.
