Police Report Lodged Over Display of ‘Allah’ in Shrine in Kangar
KANGAR, May 3 — A police report has been lodged by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and an individual over the display of the word “Allah” in a shrine located in front of a hardware shop along Persiaran Jubli Emas here.
The report was filed at the Kangar District Police Headquarters earlier today following the circulation of images on social media that sparked various reactions among the public.
NGO representative Sazeli Saad said the report was made to enable authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
He explained that the decision came after seeing a viral post showing the use of the term in a context that some individuals viewed as inappropriate.
“This matter should be examined carefully by the authorities to better understand the situation and ensure it is handled appropriately,” he said when met after lodging the report.
He added that issues involving religious sensitivities require a cautious and measured approach to avoid misunderstandings that could affect social harmony.
He also expressed hope that the investigation would clarify the background and intent behind the display.
Earlier, images of the shrine containing the word “Allah” circulated widely online, prompting mixed responses, including concerns about religious sensitivities.
In response, several parties, including local political figures, indicated their intention to lodge similar reports to facilitate further investigation.
Kangar UMNO Youth chief Saiful Fariddil Jasmi said the matter should be addressed transparently to maintain harmony among communities.
He stressed that careful handling of such issues is important to prevent misinterpretation and preserve inter-ethnic relations.
“A thorough investigation will help ensure clarity and maintain social stability,” he said.
As of now, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the progress of the investigation.
Issues involving religious symbols and terminology often require a balanced and sensitive approach, particularly in a multicultural society.
