Adira Unfazed by Criticism Over Anggrek’s Win, Focuses on Daughter’s Growth and Passion

BUKIT JALIL: Singer Adira Suhaimi has brushed aside criticism surrounding her daughter Anggrek’s victory in Talk To My Manager 2 (TTMM2), saying she prefers to focus on the positive impact the competition has had on her child rather than online debates over the final result.

The singer said she understands that talent competitions often generate differing opinions among viewers, especially when supporters have strong preferences for particular contestants.

However, she believes the outcome should be respected as it was determined by experienced judges who evaluated performances based on established criteria.

According to Adira, Anggrek’s success was earned through dedication, preparation and consistent effort throughout the competition.

“I see the victory as a blessing and a reward for her hard work. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the judges made their decision based on what they saw and assessed,” she said during an appearance at Astro’s MeleTOP programme.

Adira explained that public criticism is something she anticipated long before her daughter entered the competition, given her own experience in the entertainment industry.

She said being a public figure has taught her that praise and criticism often come together, and it is impossible to satisfy everyone.

“Whenever someone steps into the spotlight, there will always be different reactions. Some people will support you while others may disagree with certain decisions. That is part of the reality of this industry,” she said.

Rather than dwelling on negative comments, Adira chooses to focus on the encouragement and support that Anggrek has received from viewers who appreciated her performances.

The singer also addressed criticism from individuals who questioned whether a child should be exposed to the entertainment industry at a young age.

She stressed that her daughter’s involvement in singing is driven by genuine interest and enthusiasm rather than parental pressure.

As a mother, she believes it is important to nurture a child’s talent while maintaining a healthy balance between education, personal development and moral values.

“Every child has their own interests and strengths. My responsibility is to guide her and make sure she grows up in a balanced environment,” she said.

Adira added that supporting a child’s passion does not mean neglecting other important aspects of life.

She remains committed to ensuring that Anggrek continues to prioritise her studies and personal growth while pursuing activities she enjoys.

Recognising the influence of social media, Adira has taken measures to manage her daughter’s exposure to online platforms and limit unnecessary interaction with harmful comments.

She believes young individuals should be protected from excessive negativity, particularly when they are still developing emotionally.

“Social media can be useful, but it can also be overwhelming. That is why I monitor how she uses it and try to ensure she is not affected by things that are not beneficial,” she said.

Despite the criticism, Adira views the experience as an opportunity for her daughter to learn resilience and develop confidence.

She hopes Anggrek will continue pursuing her interests with a positive mindset and learn to appreciate both praise and constructive criticism.

For Adira, the most important achievement is not the trophy itself but the growth, experience and confidence her daughter has gained throughout the competition.

“She is still learning and growing. As long as she remains happy, grounded and willing to improve, that is what matters most to me,” she said.
