MACC Confirms Receiving USB Drive And Documents From Rafizi In ARM Probe
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has confirmed receiving several documents and video recordings from former Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli to assist investigations into alleged abuse of power and misappropriation involving government agreements worth nearly RM1.1 billion.
MACC Investigation Division senior director Mohd Hafaz Nazar said the Pandan MP arrived at the commission’s headquarters accompanied by five lawyers before handing over printed documents and video recordings stored in a USB flash drive.
According to him, the materials are believed to be linked to ARM Limited and were submitted voluntarily to support the ongoing investigation.
“The documents and recordings were handed over voluntarily to assist in the investigation involving him,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the MACC also recorded additional statements from Rafizi Ramli, with the process concluding at around 1.30pm.
Earlier, the former Economy Minister arrived at the MACC headquarters at about 10am to continue providing statements related to the case.
Previously, Rafizi Ramli had been questioned over four days as part of investigations into a strategic semiconductor cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Economy and UK-based ARM Limited.
To date, 22 witnesses have been called to assist in the investigation, including political analyst Chai Jin Shern, also known as James Chai.
The MACC is also expected to call two more witnesses, one based in Taiwan and another in Malaysia, in the near future.
The investigation paper was opened on February 16 after the MACC received complaints from three non-governmental organisations alleging that the project agreement was rushed, biased and potentially carried financial implications for the government.
The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
