IPGM Investigates Alleged Bullying Incident Involving Students in Kuching
PETALING JAYA: Institut Pendidikan Guru Malaysia (IPGM) has launched an investigation into allegations of bullying involving students at one of its campuses in Kuching, Sarawak following reports that recently circulated on social media.
In a statement, IPGM said it viewed the allegations seriously, particularly claims involving senior students allegedly bullying junior male students.
The institution said an internal investigation is currently underway and strict action will be taken against any trainee teacher found guilty of misconduct.
According to IPGM, disciplinary measures — including expulsion from the institution — may be imposed on individuals proven to be involved in the incident.
“IPGM does not compromise with any form of bullying misconduct. Trainee teachers must uphold discipline and demonstrate good character and moral values as future educators,” the statement said.
Earlier reports claimed the incident involved senior students allegedly bullying junior male students from the 2025–2030 intake session.
The incident was believed to have taken place between 12.30am and 4.30am last Friday.
Based on allegations circulating online, nearly 100 junior male students were reportedly subjected to various humiliating acts over a period of about four hours.
The victims were allegedly forced to perform degrading actions, including squatting and imitating inappropriate behaviour in front of other students.
There were also claims that several students were publicly ridiculed and called forward in front of their peers, causing embarrassment and emotional distress.
IPGM, however, stressed that investigations are still ongoing to verify the allegations and identify those involved.
The case attracted widespread public attention after posts related to the alleged incident began circulating on social media, sparking discussions about bullying culture within higher education institutions.
