Hillsboro Health Deploys AI-Powered Oracle Platform to Modernize Records and Strengthen Rural Care Delivery

AUSTIN, Texas — Hillsboro Health, a 25-bed critical access hospital serving rural Illinois, is undertaking a comprehensive digital modernization initiative through integrated solutions from Oracle Corporation.

The hospital will implement Oracle Health Foundation EHR as its unified electronic health record system, alongside Oracle Health Clinical AI Agent and Oracle Health Seamless Exchange to enhance clinical efficiency and data interoperability.

Building Scalable Clinical Infrastructure

As Hillsboro Health expands its services — including emergency care, inpatient treatment, outpatient services, surgery and rehabilitation — leadership identified the need for a unified clinical platform capable of supporting growth.

Standardizing on a single EHR ecosystem enables streamlined workflows, improved care coordination and stronger data continuity across departments.

CEO Michael Alexander noted that integration is essential to ensure expansion does not translate into additional administrative strain on clinical teams.

AI-Driven Documentation and Burnout Reduction

The Oracle Health Clinical AI Agent introduces voice-enabled documentation directly within the EHR.

Using generative AI, the system automatically drafts structured clinical notes from real-time patient interactions, reducing manual entry requirements and accelerating review processes.

By minimizing documentation burden, clinicians can devote more attention to patient engagement, potentially mitigating burnout — a critical challenge in modern healthcare systems.

Interoperability as a Foundation for Coordinated Care

Oracle Health Seamless Exchange allows secure aggregation of patient data from national and regional health information exchanges, as well as immunization registries.

Incoming data is cleansed and deduplicated before integration into clinician workflows, creating a comprehensive and accurate patient record.

This capability reduces time spent gathering fragmented information and supports more informed clinical decision-making.

Advancing Rural Healthcare Through Technology

Seema Verma, executive vice president and general manager of Oracle Health and Life Sciences, emphasized that bringing advanced digital infrastructure to rural and critical access hospitals is central to Oracle’s long-term healthcare strategy.

As smaller hospitals increasingly adopt AI-powered platforms, the gap between urban and rural healthcare technology capabilities may narrow, improving operational resilience and patient outcomes.

Hillsboro Health’s transition signals a broader shift in healthcare modernization, where AI, interoperability and integrated EHR systems are becoming foundational components of sustainable care delivery models.
