Foreign Media Explore Chongqing, Highlight China’s Growing Automotive Innovation Strength

BEIJING, April 8 — Foreign media professionals, business leaders and academics from 12 countries recently visited Chongqing, gaining firsthand insights into the rapid development and innovation within China’s automotive industry.

The tour, organised by China Economic Information Service in collaboration with China Automotive Engineering Research Institute and the Belt and Road Economic Information Partnership, focused on showcasing the emerging “new productive forces” driving the automotive sector.

Through site visits, immersive demonstrations and direct engagement with industry stakeholders, participants were introduced to Chongqing’s strengths in research and development, testing and certification capabilities.

A key highlight of the programme was a visit to the global R&D centre of Changan Automobile, where participants observed advanced laboratories and the full lifecycle of vehicle development, from design to production.

Among the featured models was the CHANGAN NEVO A06, a next-generation smart sedan built on a software-driven architecture and equipped with intelligent driving features, including highway and urban navigation assistance as well as full-scenario parking capabilities.

Participants who experienced the vehicle firsthand noted its smooth and quiet ride, along with the advanced smart cabin features designed to enhance passenger comfort, such as seat massage and thermal control systems.

Malaysian scholar Chung Tin Fah described the model as a strong representation of the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology, particularly its integration of automation and artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, journalist Diez Millan Isaura from Prensa Latina highlighted the sense of safety and reliability she experienced during the test drive.

The tour also included a visit to CAERI’s headquarters, where participants explored facilities such as wind tunnels, simulation networks and safety testing centres, reflecting the rigorous standards applied to Chinese-made vehicles.

CAERI deputy general manager Wang Honggang noted that the organisation is evolving from a testing service provider into a global promoter of technology standards and regulatory alignment.

He added that CAERI aims to deepen cooperation with Belt and Road partner countries, particularly in areas such as technology exchange, standardisation and industrial capacity development.

As a city with a fully integrated automotive supply chain and home to major industry players, Chongqing continues to strengthen its position as a key hub in China’s rapidly advancing automotive ecosystem.
