Fazeera Nazri Says Many Seek Counselling Simply to Be Heard and Understood

PETALING JAYA: Fazeera Nazri, the wife of actor Fizo Omar, believes that seeking counselling should never be viewed as a sign of weakness, saying many people turn to professional help simply because they want to be heard and understood.

The 28-year-old former flight attendant shared her thoughts in a recent post on Threads, where she reflected on the emotional struggles many people silently endure and the importance of having a safe space to express their feelings.

According to Fazeera, not everyone who seeks counselling is dealing with a severe mental health condition.

Instead, she said many individuals are looking for someone who will listen to them without judgement and acknowledge what they are going through.

“Sometimes people go for counselling not because of anything else. They simply want to be heard and understood.

“I once read a book about how to win friends and influence people, and there was a quote from a doctor saying that one of the greatest desires of human beings is to be understood by others,” she wrote.

Fazeera said the desire to feel understood is a fundamental human need and that emotional support plays an important role in maintaining a person’s well-being.

She added that when people begin to feel unimportant or believe no one is listening to them, it can have serious emotional consequences.

“Many people begin to lose their sense of self when they feel they are no longer important and that nobody truly hears them,” she said.

Her remarks quickly gained attention on social media, with many users sharing their own experiences of feeling isolated or misunderstood.

Several users agreed that society still needs to improve its understanding of emotional well-being and remove the stigma associated with seeking professional help.

Fazeera noted that one of the biggest challenges faced by people struggling emotionally is the fear of being labelled as overly sensitive or accused of overthinking.

As a result, many choose to suppress their emotions rather than risk being judged by family members or friends.

“They are often labelled as people who think too much whenever they try to express their feelings to those closest to them,” she said.

She believes everyone deserves a safe environment where they can express themselves freely without fear of criticism or rejection.

Listening with empathy and making an effort to understand another person’s struggles, she added, are among the most meaningful ways to support someone going through difficult times.

Her comments also sparked wider discussions on the importance of emotional support within families and communities.

Many social media users pointed out that although awareness of mental health issues has increased in recent years, some people still regard counselling as something embarrassing or unnecessary.

Mental health advocates, however, have long argued that seeking counselling is a positive step towards understanding oneself, managing emotions and developing healthier coping mechanisms.

Counselling is increasingly recognised as a tool that helps individuals gain clarity, build confidence and improve their ability to deal with life’s challenges.

Fazeera herself is known for sharing insights on family life, parenting and emotional well-being through her social media platforms.

Since marrying actor Fizo Omar on October 21, 2021, she has attracted attention for her down-to-earth personality and openness in discussing personal experiences.

As a wife and mother, she believes everyone faces struggles that may not always be visible to others.

For that reason, she hopes society will become more compassionate and less judgemental towards people who seek help or choose to speak openly about their feelings.

According to Fazeera, sometimes what people need most is not advice or solutions, but simply someone willing to listen and genuinely understand what they are going through.
