KL Tower To Glow Blue In Support Of International Museum Day Celebration
PUTRAJAYA: Menara Kuala Lumpur will be illuminated in blue on May 18 as Malaysia joins the global celebration of International Museum Day 2026.
In a statement, the Ministry of National Unity said the initiative is being carried out in collaboration with LSH Service Master, the operator of KL Tower.
According to the ministry, this year’s theme, “Museums Uniting a Divided World”, highlights the important role museums play in connecting communities through history, culture and knowledge-sharing.
The ministry said museums today serve a broader purpose beyond preserving historical artefacts, functioning as educational and social spaces that strengthen understanding among people from different backgrounds.
“This year’s theme emphasises how museums can act as bridges that connect communities, narrow cultural divides and strengthen unity in an increasingly complex world,” the statement said.
The ministry added that the blue illumination at KL Tower symbolises support for efforts to empower museums as institutions of heritage preservation, education and knowledge development for future generations.
At the same time, the initiative is also aligned with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani, which promotes unity, appreciation of national heritage and the development of an inclusive society.
“The ministry will continue strengthening the country’s museum and heritage sector to ensure it remains relevant and accessible to younger generations through education, modern technology and community engagement approaches,” it said.
Members of the public are encouraged to visit museums nationwide during the International Museum Day celebration and participate in various educational, cultural and heritage-related activities organised throughout the country.
The annual celebration is observed worldwide as a platform to raise public awareness about the importance of museums in preserving history, culture and national identity.
Cultural industry observers believe programmes such as this can help attract younger audiences to museums while also supporting the growth of Malaysia’s cultural tourism sector.
With blue lights set to brighten the capital city skyline, KL Tower is expected to become one of the main symbols of Malaysia’s International Museum Day celebration this year.
