KL Street Arts Festival 2026 To Celebrate Urban Culture In Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR: The capital city is set to come alive with vibrant street culture and creative performances as KL Street Arts Festival 2026 takes over Jalan Raja at Dataran Merdeka on June 20.
Organised in collaboration with the KL Street Jam programme, the festival will run from noon until 11pm and is expected to gather urban artists, independent performers, creative communities and visitors from across the country in one large-scale celebration of local arts culture.
The event is expected to serve as an important platform for promoting Malaysia’s growing street arts movement while giving independent artists an opportunity to showcase their talent and creative works to a wider audience.
Visitors can look forward to a diverse range of activities including live street music, visual arts exhibitions, busker performances, interactive art experiences, handicraft showcases, creative forums and knowledge-sharing sessions featuring local and international artists.
During the evening segment, the festival will feature special KL Street Jam performances involving artists closely associated with Malaysia’s urban and alternative music scene.
Among the performers scheduled to appear are Baba Andy, Maman Teacher’s Pet, Aru Peruzza and Muzza’s Velvettones.
Special performances by cultural artists and combo groups from Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) are also expected to further energise the atmosphere throughout the festival.
Apart from entertainment, the programme will place strong emphasis on education and community engagement through seminars and creative workshops conducted during the event.
Featured speakers include Egyptian calligraphy artist Cheb Ali, veteran Malaysian clown performer Mr Labu and Yosh Studio, which will organise origami-related sessions and workshops.
The discussions will explore topics surrounding urban arts development, visual creativity, street culture and the evolving challenges faced by Malaysia’s independent creative industry.
At the same time, the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) will participate in the festival through awareness campaigns highlighting the dangers of drug abuse, especially among youths and members of the creative community.
Together with Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia (KARYAWAN), AADK is also expected to introduce the “Music Without Drugs” campaign aimed at promoting healthy and drug-free lifestyles through arts and music.
The festival will additionally feature nearly 20 local arts and craft exhibitors showcasing handmade products and creative works for visitors throughout the day.
Organisers said the event aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen the “Seniman Kota” initiative introduced by DBKL and KARYAWAN to support the development of licensed street performers and creative artists in Kuala Lumpur.
Support from Yayasan Hasanah through its Arts for All Seasons (ArtsFAS) initiative has also contributed significantly to the success of the programme.
Set against the iconic backdrop of Dataran Merdeka and the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, the festival is expected to offer a unique urban arts experience for both locals and tourists.
The event is open free of charge and is expected to become one of Kuala Lumpur’s biggest street arts festivals this year.
