TNB Continues Commitment To Malaysian Hockey With New Sponsorship Until 2030

KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has strengthened its commitment to Malaysian hockey after signing a new sponsorship agreement with the Malaysia Hockey Confederation (MHC) for a five-year period from 2026 to 2030.

TNB president and chief executive officer Shamsul Ahmad said the strategic partnership, which began in 2006, reflects the company’s continued dedication to supporting the overall growth of hockey in Malaysia.

He said TNB believes sports play an important role in shaping discipline, leadership qualities and teamwork among the younger generation.

According to him, the sponsorship is not merely part of corporate responsibility efforts but also aims to ensure the long-term and sustainable development of hockey talent in the country.

“For nearly two decades, TNB has channelled more than RM60 million towards various hockey development initiatives including domestic leagues, major tournaments, youth player training and preparations for the national squad,” he said in a statement today.

He added that for 2025 alone, sponsorship contributions exceeded RM7.6 million, covering grassroots development programmes, youth athlete training and participation in international competitions.

The signing ceremony took place at the Leo Moggie Convention Centre and was witnessed by Youth and Sports Minister Mohammed Taufiq Johari.

Shamsul said the initiative aligns with TNB’s ESG agenda, particularly in the area of social and community development, while supporting the aspirations of the National Sports Vision 2030.

He added that TNB would continue to play an active role in strengthening the country’s hockey ecosystem to produce more talented young players capable of competing internationally.

Meanwhile, MHC president Subahan Kamal said TNB’s continued support has significantly contributed to Malaysian hockey development over the years.

He noted that the TNB Thunderbolts programme remains one of the partnership’s greatest achievements after producing more than 100 national and senior hockey players.

In addition, the TNB Hockey Adopted School programme now involves seven schools including Sekolah Sukan Tunku Mahkota Ismail and Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil.

According to him, the programme provides various forms of support including equipment assistance, professional training, exposure to competitive tournaments and continuous player development monitoring.
