Zahid Says Umno Wings’ No-Confidence Remarks on Negeri Sembilan MB Are Personal, Not Party Stand

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 — United Malays National Organisation president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has clarified that statements of no confidence issued by several party wings against the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar should be regarded as individual views rather than the official position of the party.

He stressed that the representation of Barisan Nasional assembly members in the State Legislative Assembly is based on collective party decisions that must be respected.

“Those remarks reflect their opinions. However, the presence of BN representatives in the State Assembly is a party decision and should be upheld,” he told reporters after delivering his closing address at the Umno Education Congress.

The remarks follow concerns raised by Negeri Sembilan Umno’s Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings regarding the leadership of Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.

The three wings highlighted issues surrounding the relocation of occupants and the directive to vacate the Balai Undang Luak Sungai Ujong premises, which they said occurred while a customary dispute remained unresolved.

In a joint statement, they described the move as insensitive and potentially disruptive to ongoing traditional processes.

They also expressed concern that the directive, issued on April 29, could be seen as an administrative action that pre-empted customary proceedings.

Responding to the matter, Zahid took a measured stance, noting that differing views within the party are not uncommon but do not necessarily reflect its official position.

He emphasised the importance of party discipline in maintaining political stability and effective governance.

According to him, decisions involving political representation and cooperation should be handled through established party mechanisms.

In this context, he urged all parties to respect decisions made at the leadership level.

The issue also highlights the broader challenge of balancing political considerations with administrative decisions and cultural sensitivities, particularly in states with strong traditional structures.

Zahid underscored the need to preserve stability to ensure that governance continues without disruption.
