Tourism Malaysia Leverages Mega Fam to Position Malaysia as a Cross-Cultural Tourism Destination
KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Tourism Malaysia is intensifying its global promotional efforts through the Mega Familiarisation Trip (Mega Fam), bringing together international media representatives to experience Malaysia’s diverse cultural and tourism offerings firsthand.
The programme, running from April 30 to May 4, involves 41 media delegates from across East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania, including participants from Australia, China, India, Japan and South Korea.
The initiative serves as a strategic platform to strengthen engagement with global media and key opinion leaders, while enhancing international exposure for Malaysia as a culturally rich and dynamic tourism destination.
According to an official statement, this edition of Mega Fam coincides with Labour Day celebrations and the Rain Rave Water Music Festival 2026, offering participants a unique blend of modern entertainment and local cultural experiences.
Over the course of five days and four nights, participants are taken on an immersive journey through key destinations in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya.
These locations were selected for their significance as international gateways and administrative centres, providing a comprehensive perspective on Malaysia’s urban vibrancy and cultural identity.
The itinerary includes curated experiences such as the Skyline Luge at Gamuda Cove, the KL Hop-On Hop-Off city tour, Immersify KL and a scenic cruise in Putrajaya.
These activities are designed to showcase the fusion of modern attractions and cultural heritage that defines Malaysia’s tourism appeal.
The latest Mega Fam programme builds on previous editions, including the Mega Fam Iftar event focused on Ramadan in February and another trip held in conjunction with the Vaisakhi festival in April.
This approach reflects Tourism Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to highlight the country’s cultural diversity through seasonal and thematic experiences.
Tourism Malaysia Director-General Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim said the programme plays a crucial role in driving tourism growth by engaging global media and influencers.
He emphasised that providing firsthand experiences helps build long-term partnerships and strengthens Malaysia’s position as a preferred travel destination.
The initiative also aligns with the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, which promotes the country as a culturally rich and sustainable destination.
Overall, Mega Fam is seen as a key platform to enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness in the global tourism industry while reinforcing its identity as a unique cross-cultural destination.
