Rafizi Ramli Completes Eight-Hour MACC Questioning Over Semiconductor Deal Probe, Expected to Return for Further Sessions

PUTRAJAYA — Pandan Member of Parliament Rafizi Ramli spent more than eight hours at the headquarters of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday, providing a detailed statement to assist in an ongoing investigation linked to a high-profile semiconductor investment deal.

Rafizi was seen leaving the MACC complex at approximately 6.50pm after arriving earlier in the morning, marking a lengthy session with investigators as part of efforts to gather information related to the case.

Extended Questioning Session at MACC Headquarters

According to Rafizi, the questioning process proceeded smoothly despite its duration, noting that the extended timeframe was due to the complexity of the matters under investigation.

“The session went well, but it took time because there were many issues that needed clarification,” he told reporters outside the MACC premises.

He confirmed that he had fully cooperated with investigators throughout the process and was prepared to continue assisting the authorities as required.

Rafizi also indicated that the recording of his statement is not yet complete and will continue in subsequent sessions.

Expected to Return for Continued Investigation

The former economy minister said he has been instructed to return to the MACC headquarters the following day at 10am to continue providing his statement.

He added that further sessions may be scheduled depending on the needs of the investigation.

“I have been asked to come back tomorrow, and there is a possibility that I may be called again for several more days,” he said.

The ongoing engagement highlights the seriousness of the investigation and the amount of information being examined by authorities.

Arrival Accompanied by Legal Team

Earlier in the day, Rafizi arrived at the MACC headquarters at around 9.30am in a dark blue Volvo SUV, accompanied by a team of five lawyers.

Among them was Yaacob Sam, a former Court of Appeal judge, underscoring the importance of the case and the legal scrutiny involved.

Rafizi explained that the investigation stems from allegations raised by a non-governmental organisation concerning a joint venture agreement involving the government and a major global semiconductor company.

Probe Linked to Strategic Investment Deal

The investigation is reportedly connected to a strategic collaboration involving Arm Holdings, a leading semiconductor firm based in the United Kingdom.

The deal, valued at approximately RM1.1 billion, has drawn attention following claims that the agreement may have been executed hastily.

Authorities are examining whether elements of abuse of power or mismanagement were involved in the arrangement between the Ministry of Economy and the company.

MACC Confirms Ongoing Investigation

MACC senior director of investigations Mohd Hafaz Nazar confirmed that Rafizi’s presence was part of efforts to assist the commission in completing its probe.

He said Rafizi arrived at 9.30am and was allowed to leave in the evening, with the recording of his statement scheduled to continue the next day.

The investigation, which began on February 13, 2025, has so far involved the recording of statements from 22 individuals, including ministers and senior government officials.

Focus on Transparency and Accountability

The case has attracted public attention due to its scale and the involvement of a major international technology firm.

Observers note that the investigation reflects ongoing efforts by authorities to ensure transparency and accountability in high-value government-linked investments.

As the probe continues, further developments are expected to shed light on the details of the agreement and the circumstances surrounding its execution.
