Rapid KL Introduces Digital Unlimited Travel Pass Via TNG eWallet
PETALING JAYA: Rapid KL has taken another step towards modernising public transportation services by introducing Rapid Bulanan Digital, an unlimited travel pass that can now be purchased and activated directly through the TNG eWallet application.
The new initiative is expected to provide greater convenience for commuters by allowing them to renew or activate their monthly passes digitally without having to visit service counters.
In a statement released today, Rapid KL said the move forms part of its ongoing commitment to accelerating digital transformation in public transportation, in line with Malaysia’s aspiration to develop a smarter, more efficient and cashless mobility ecosystem.
According to the company, digitalising the purchase and activation process will not only improve user experience but also help reduce congestion at ticketing and customer service counters, especially during peak hours.
“Rapid Bulanan Digital allows users to purchase, renew and activate their monthly passes directly through the TNG eWallet application without the need to queue at counters.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to delivering a more seamless, convenient and modern commuting experience,” the statement said.
Rapid Bulanan is an unlimited travel pass that offers unrestricted access for 30 consecutive days across the entire Rapid KL network.
The pass covers both rail and bus services operated by Rapid KL, providing commuters with greater flexibility and cost savings for their daily journeys.
Unlike the My50 pass, which is exclusively available to Malaysian citizens, Rapid Bulanan Digital is open to all users, including non-citizens.
This makes it an attractive option for expatriates, international students, foreign workers and long-term visitors who rely on public transportation while staying in Malaysia.
Rapid KL said the digital platform also allows users to manage their travel arrangements more efficiently as all transactions can be completed via smartphone.
The initiative is in line with changing consumer behaviour, as more people increasingly prefer digital and cashless payment solutions in their everyday lives.
Industry observers view the launch as a positive development that could encourage greater use of public transportation.
They believe easier access to travel passes and faster activation processes will make commuting more convenient and attractive to a wider segment of the population.
The collaboration with TNG eWallet, one of Malaysia’s most widely used digital payment platforms, is also expected to significantly expand the reach of Rapid KL’s services.
Over the years, Rapid KL has introduced various digital initiatives, including contactless payments and QR-based ticketing systems, to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Such initiatives are aligned with the government’s broader digitalisation agenda aimed at modernising public services and enhancing urban mobility.
As cities become more connected and technology-driven, transport operators are increasingly expected to provide services that are fast, efficient and user-friendly.
The introduction of Rapid Bulanan Digital demonstrates how public transportation can evolve beyond simply moving people from one place to another by offering a more integrated and technology-enabled travel experience.
Rapid KL believes the initiative will benefit commuters while supporting efforts to increase public transport usage across the Klang Valley over the long term.
With this latest innovation, commuters now have another convenient and flexible option to enjoy unlimited travel while embracing Malaysia’s growing digital economy.
