Insta360 Unveils Luna Ultra 8K Dual-Lens Gimbal Camera With Leica Optics and AI Technology

NEW YORK: Insta360 has expanded its lineup of premium imaging devices with the introduction of the Luna Ultra, an AI-powered gimbal camera featuring dual Leica Summicron lenses, 8K video recording capabilities and a detachable OLED touchscreen.

The new camera was announced through photography and electronics retailer B&H Photo, which described the Luna Ultra as a next-generation imaging device aimed at content creators, filmmakers and users seeking professional-grade performance in a compact form factor.

At the heart of the Luna Ultra is a dual-lens system developed in collaboration with Leica.

The main camera uses a large 1-inch CMOS sensor, while the telephoto module is equipped with a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor.

This combination allows the camera to capture highly detailed images and record videos at resolutions of up to 8K at 30 frames per second.

According to Insta360, the integration of Leica optics with advanced AI technology enables the camera to deliver superior image quality while maintaining fast and accurate subject tracking.

The company said the system is designed to handle fast-moving scenes, making it suitable for sports, outdoor adventures and dynamic filmmaking scenarios.

The Luna Ultra also comes equipped with a built-in three-axis stabilisation system that helps users produce smooth and stable footage even while moving.

This feature is expected to appeal to vloggers and filmmakers who require cinematic shots without relying on bulky external stabilisers.

In terms of colour science, the camera includes Leica colour profiles and cinematic filters to deliver a more natural and visually appealing look.

Users can also record in 10-bit I-Log format, giving them greater flexibility during post-production and colour grading.

One of the Luna Ultra’s most distinctive features is its detachable two-inch OLED touchscreen.

Beyond functioning as a display for framing and reviewing footage, the screen can also operate as a remote control and wireless microphone.

It supports high-definition video transmission over distances of up to 65 feet, providing users with greater shooting flexibility.

The camera is also compatible with Insta360’s newly introduced Mic Pro wireless audio system.

The microphone features E-Ink displays and supports 32-bit float internal recording, allowing creators to capture high-quality audio with an extended dynamic range while reducing the risk of clipping or distortion.

Powering the Luna Ultra is a triple AI chip architecture.

Two of the processors are dedicated to image processing tasks, enhancing low-light performance and improving autofocus and tracking capabilities.

The third chip manages other camera operations, ensuring smooth performance across the device.

In addition to standard video recording, Luna Ultra offers creative modes such as 4K Live Frame photos and Beauty Mode, which is designed to refine skin textures and improve portrait quality.

The camera also includes 47GB of internal storage, giving users the flexibility to start recording immediately without depending entirely on external memory cards.

Battery life is rated at around four hours, even when the camera’s stabilisation and AI tracking features are active.

The launch of Luna Ultra reflects Insta360’s ambition to remain at the forefront of the rapidly evolving imaging industry.

By combining Leica-engineered optics, advanced AI capabilities, 8K recording and a modular design, the company is positioning Luna Ultra as a premium solution for creators looking to elevate their visual storytelling.

As demand for intelligent and versatile cameras continues to grow, the Luna Ultra is expected to become one of the most talked-about releases in the professional content creation market this year.
