PLUS Expects Up to 2.2 Million Vehicles Daily During Chinese New Year and Start of Ramadan

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s main highway operator, PLUS Malaysia Berhad, has forecast a sharp rise in traffic volumes across its highway network during the Chinese New Year travel period, which coincides with the beginning of Ramadan.

In a statement, the company said daily traffic is expected to reach as high as 2.2 million vehicles during peak periods, particularly on February 12, 13 and 14 for outbound travel from the Klang Valley, and on February 20 and 21 for return journeys.

PLUS said several major stretches, including the East Coast Expressway Phase 2, are likely to experience heavy congestion as more motorists travel for festive celebrations and holidays.

To ease traffic flow, highway users are strongly encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and make full use of the MyPLUS-TTA digital travel advisory system.

Available via the PLUS mobile application, MyPLUS-TTA provides recommended travel schedules based on real-time traffic analysis.

PLUS said the feature enables users to check estimated travel times, current traffic conditions and incident alerts, allowing for better trip planning and more balanced traffic distribution.

Motorists travelling between February 11 and 22 are advised to follow the suggested travel windows to minimise delays and congestion.

According to data from the 2025 Chinese New Year period, users who adhered to MyPLUS-TTA recommendations managed to save between 30 minutes and one hour on their journeys.

For instance, trips from Jalan Duta to Juru, which usually took about five and a half hours during peak seasons, were shortened to around four and a half to five hours.

In contrast, motorists who travelled outside the recommended time slots experienced delays of up to three additional hours.

PLUS said traffic volumes are expected to surge as many Malaysians take advantage of the festive break to visit family members and prepare for the fasting month.

Highway users are advised to download or update the PLUS application to stay informed and ensure smoother, safer and more comfortable journeys throughout the festive period.
