Madani Recreational Parks Expansion Gains Momentum with 217 Completed and 100 More Planned
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s efforts to strengthen public recreational infrastructure continue to gain momentum, with the Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan confirming that 217 Madani Recreational Parks (TRM) have been completed nationwide so far.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the ministry is accelerating project implementation to ensure at least another 100 parks are completed this year.
He said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to providing safe, accessible, and inclusive green spaces for communities across the country.
“Our long-term goal is to establish 1,000 Madani parks nationwide. So far, 217 are ready, and another 100 will be completed this year,” he said in a post on X.
Nga also cited the upgraded Taman Komuniti Lebuh Arked in Sungai Petani, Kedah, completed in October last year at a cost of nearly RM500,000, as an example of successful community landscape development.
The project involved infrastructure and landscaping works across a three-acre area, designed to improve safety, accessibility, and user comfort.
Malaysia aims to develop 1,000 TRMs by 2035, supported by an allocation of RM85.6 million to the Jabatan Landskap Negara, in line with its sustainability and liveability agenda.
Nga said Madani parks are designed not only as recreational facilities but also as community hubs that promote social interaction, physical activity, and mental well-being.
He noted that increased access to green spaces can help encourage healthier lifestyles, reduce urban stress, and strengthen neighbourhood ties.
Since its launch in 2024, the TRM programme has consistently exceeded its annual construction targets, reflecting strong institutional capacity and policy commitment.
Nga added that the continued expansion of Madani Recreational Parks will play a vital role in shaping more balanced, sustainable, and people-friendly living environments for Malaysians in the long term.
