KPDN Equips Border Enforcement Personnel with Firearms and Protective Vests to Enhance Safety
KOTA BHARU, Feb 27 — Malaysia’s Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Kos Sara Hidup (KPDN) has strengthened safety measures by equipping enforcement officers stationed along the Malaysia-Thailand border with firearms and bulletproof vests.
Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh said the move is part of existing safety protocols, particularly for personnel operating in high-risk areas such as Sungai Golok.
She said the equipment is intended to provide adequate protection for officers while carrying out enforcement duties.
According to her, new bulletproof vests have also been introduced to further enhance safety.
Fuziah said the initiative reflects the ministry’s ongoing commitment to improving enforcement preparedness.
She added that officers are regularly reminded to follow safety procedures and use protective equipment provided.
She said this when commenting on a recent shooting incident involving the Border Control and Protection Agency commander in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasaruddin M. Nasir.
The officer reportedly survived after being targeted by armed attackers.
The incident raised concerns about the safety of enforcement personnel working in border areas.
Fuziah said the ministry takes the safety of its officers seriously.
She added that ensuring officer protection is essential for effective law enforcement.
The ministry remains committed to continuously strengthening safety measures.
The move is also seen as important in maintaining national security at border areas.
