Disruption of Azam Baki’s Speech Under Review, Government Leaves Action to Authorities
PUTRAJAYA, April 8 — The government has taken a measured approach by leaving it to the relevant authorities to investigate an incident involving the disruption of a speech by Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki during a recent event in the capital.
Government spokesperson and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said any further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation, particularly if any legal violations are identified.
He stressed that the government will not make premature conclusions and will allow the authorities to carry out a thorough and impartial investigation.
Fahmi added that he has yet to receive an official report on the matter and is currently relying on media coverage for information regarding the incident.
The disruption occurred while Azam was delivering a speech at an academic forum, when two individuals unexpectedly approached the stage area.
One of them was reportedly carrying a banner calling for action against Azam in relation to issues previously raised.
However, security personnel acted swiftly to escort both individuals out of the venue, ensuring that the situation was quickly brought under control.
The incident lasted only a brief moment and did not significantly disrupt the programme.
Azam remained composed and continued his speech without interruption, focusing on themes of integrity and good governance.
Fahmi reiterated that any follow-up action will be determined based on the findings of the authorities, in line with the rule of law.
He also emphasised that any act that disrupts public events or official proceedings should be assessed within the legal framework to safeguard public order.
The case highlights the importance of allowing due process to take its course, ensuring that all incidents are handled fairly and in accordance with established legal principles.
