Department of Environment Malaysia Deputy D-G Faces Fresh RM9,110 Charge in Sessions Court

SHAH ALAM, April 6 — The deputy director-general (Development) of the Department of Environment Malaysia, Norhazni Mat Sari, was brought before the Sessions Court here today on a new charge involving RM9,110 allegedly received for home repair works in 2022.

The 59-year-old pleaded not guilty after the charge was read in court.

According to the charge, the payment was allegedly received from a director of a scheduled waste management company via an online transfer into the account of a construction company linked to her official responsibilities.

Offence Allegedly Committed in Klang

The alleged offence took place on May 25, 2022, at a bank in Taman Sentosa, Klang.

She was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Joint Trial Approved

Deputy public prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin applied for the new charge to be tried together with six earlier charges.

The application was not opposed by defence counsel Haresh Mahadevan.

Sessions Court judge Mohd Nasir Nordin allowed the application and ordered that the charges be heard jointly.

Bail Conditions Maintained

The court also ruled that the bail conditions imposed earlier by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court remain in force.

The accused had previously been granted bail of RM25,000 with one surety and required to surrender her passport.

Earlier Charges Still Ongoing

Previously, Norhazni pleaded not guilty to six charges involving RM21,000 allegedly received from a company linked to her official duties.

The funds were said to have been transferred into her son’s bank account between April 2022 and July 2024.

Those charges are also being tried under Section 165 of the Penal Code.
