Zizan Nin Criticises Former Employee, Says Professional Feedback Was Misrepresented
PETALING JAYA: Actor and director Zizan Nin has expressed disappointment over the actions of a former employee whom he claims misrepresented professional feedback received during the employee’s final day at work.
The filmmaker alleged that the individual later portrayed the situation publicly in a manner that created the impression of being unfairly treated, despite what he described as a routine discussion conducted before the employee’s departure.
According to Zizan, the former staff member also blocked him on the social media platform Threads before posting comments that appeared to reference their final interaction.
He said the conversation had been intended as a constructive exchange of views rather than the criticism or lecture it was allegedly portrayed to be.
“The discussion was part of a normal exit process where feedback and observations were shared.
“Unfortunately, the situation was later presented in a way that suggested the individual was a victim of circumstances,” he said in a social media post.
Zizan stressed that employees should be willing to accept constructive feedback, especially when it is intended to support personal and professional growth.
He also highlighted the importance of honesty during recruitment and interview processes, arguing that candidates should accurately represent their skills and capabilities when applying for positions.
According to him, employers rely on the information provided during interviews when assigning responsibilities and evaluating suitability for a role.
“If someone claims to possess certain abilities during an interview but is unable to perform the required tasks later, it creates difficulties for both the organisation and colleagues,” he said.
The actor further remarked that age and seniority do not necessarily guarantee professionalism, noting that younger employees are often more receptive to learning and constructive criticism.
He said a positive attitude towards feedback is often more valuable than years of experience alone.
Despite his criticism, Zizan wished the former employee success in a new position and expressed hope that the individual would benefit from the lessons learned throughout the experience.
He also urged all parties to avoid unnecessarily prolonging the dispute or portraying events in a misleading manner for public sympathy.
According to Zizan, accountability and self-reflection are important qualities in any professional environment and should be embraced rather than avoided.
The social media posts have since attracted attention online, generating discussion about workplace expectations, employer-employee relationships and the role of constructive criticism in career development.
Zizan Nin is a well-known Malaysian actor, director and producer who currently manages his own production company while remaining active in the local entertainment industry.
The incident has prompted mixed reactions among social media users, with some supporting the importance of honest feedback in the workplace while others emphasised the need for respectful communication between employers and employees.
