AirAsia X Sees Stable Operations Until June, Fuel Outlook Beyond Remains Unclear
SEPANG, April 6 — AirAsia X expects its operations to remain stable through June based on current jet fuel reserves, despite ongoing supply uncertainties linked to tensions in the Middle East.
Group CEO Bo Lingam said guidance from Petronas indicates sufficient fuel for the near term, although visibility beyond June remains uncertain.
“We have clarity until June, but beyond that depends on global developments,” he said.
Oil Supply Chain Under Pressure
The conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran has disrupted global oil flows, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz.
This has limited supply movement to key markets, including Asia.
Refuelling Restrictions Emerging
Bo noted that countries such as Thailand and Vietnam have begun imposing limits on aircraft refuelling to manage shortages.
These measures are adding operational challenges for airlines.
Bahrain Route Still on Track
Despite uncertainties, AirAsia X plans to proceed with its Bahrain route launch on June 26, expressing optimism that conditions will stabilise.
Contingency Plans in Place
The airline is also evaluating alternative routing options, including via Turkey, should disruptions continue.
Bo said the situation is being closely monitored to ensure operational continuity.
