Woman Arrested After Driving Against Traffic in Seremban, Viral Video Sparks Public Concern
SEREMBAN, April 6 — A woman has been arrested after she was caught driving against traffic along Jalan Persiaran Utama S2/1 near a shopping mall here, following a viral video that raised serious safety concerns among the public.
The incident, which occurred on April 4 at approximately 1.58pm, quickly gained traction online after a one-minute and 59-second video clip circulated widely across social media platforms. The footage showed a sport utility vehicle (SUV) moving against the flow of traffic, creating a highly dangerous situation for other road users.
Seremban District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Azahar Abdul Rahim said authorities were alerted to the incident through the viral video and immediately launched an investigation.
Driver Identified Through Viral Footage
According to him, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of the Seremban District Police Headquarters successfully identified the driver involved based on information gathered from the video.
“The suspect, a woman in her 30s, later presented herself at the BSPT office and admitted to being the driver of the vehicle,” he said in a statement.
The woman, who resides in Selangor, was subsequently detained along with her vehicle to assist in further investigations. Police acted swiftly to locate the individual, ensuring that the case was addressed promptly amid growing public concern.
No Drugs Involved, Claims Unfamiliarity with Road
Azahar added that a urine screening test conducted on the suspect returned negative results, ruling out the possibility of drug influence in the incident.
The suspect reportedly claimed that she was unfamiliar with the road and that it was her first time driving through the area.
However, authorities stressed that unfamiliarity with a route cannot justify reckless driving behaviour, especially actions that endanger other road users.
Public Safety Concerns Intensify
Driving against traffic is considered a serious traffic offence that can lead to severe or even fatal accidents. In this case, the incident occurred in a relatively busy area, increasing the potential risk of collisions.
The viral nature of the video prompted strong reactions online, with many users expressing concern over road safety and calling for strict enforcement against irresponsible drivers.
Police have reminded motorists to always adhere to traffic regulations and to plan their routes carefully, particularly when navigating unfamiliar areas.
The case is currently under investigation, and appropriate legal action will be taken once the investigation is complete.
