Four Arrested Over Mosque Donation Box Theft in Shah Alam, All Have Criminal and Drug Records

PETALING JAYA, Feb 25 — Four local men arrested in connection with the theft of a donation box at Masjid Kristal in Section 7, Shah Alam, have prior criminal and drug records, police said.

Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said the suspects, aged between 17 and 26, were found to have previous records involving criminal offences and drug-related activities.

He said drug screening tests conducted on the suspects also revealed that one of them tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

The arrests were made during a special police operation carried out by the Shah Alam district criminal investigation unit with assistance from crime prevention personnel.

Police operation led to arrests at multiple locations

The operation was conducted over two days between 12.30am and 3am at several locations, including Section 13 in Shah Alam and Seri Kembangan.

Police successfully detained all four suspects believed to be involved in the theft.

Authorities also seized a vehicle suspected to have been used during the crime.

In addition, four mobile phones and RM200 in cash were confiscated as part of the investigation.

Further investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspects were involved in other similar offences.

Mosques urged to strengthen security measures

Shazeli advised mosque and surau management to improve security measures to prevent similar incidents.

He said CCTV systems should be regularly checked to ensure they are functioning properly.

Mosque administrators were also encouraged to empty donation boxes frequently to reduce theft risks.

He also called on the public to report suspicious individuals at places of worship.

Police said public cooperation is vital to maintaining safety and preventing crime.

Theft believed to have occurred early morning

The incident was believed to have taken place at around 4am.

The suspects were reportedly travelling in a silver Toyota Avanza during the incident.

Police are continuing their investigation.
