MACC Clarifies No Investigation Opened Against Rafizi, Dismisses Raid Claims
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has clarified that no investigation has been initiated against former economy minister Rafizi Ramli over allegations involving RM1.1 billion in purported misappropriated funds.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed that the commission has not opened any investigation paper and is currently only reviewing documents submitted by several non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
He dismissed claims that enforcement action, including a raid, was being planned against Rafizi.
“At this stage, investigating officers are merely scrutinising the documents. No investigation paper has been opened and no enforcement action is being carried out,” he said.
Preliminary Assessment Underway
Azam explained that all complaints received by the MACC are subjected to a preliminary assessment before any formal investigation is launched.
His statement reinforced earlier remarks by deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, who confirmed that the submitted documents are still being examined.
Previously, the MACC acknowledged receiving reports from NGOs concerning alleged RM1.1 billion misappropriation linked to a senior minister but has yet to determine whether further action is warranted.
Response to Alleged Internal Leak
Earlier, Rafizi claimed during a press conference with several PKR Members of Parliament that internal sources had informed him of a planned raid.
Azam reiterated that the MACC operates strictly within the framework of the law and upholds principles of transparency and due process.
He urged the public to refrain from circulating unverified information that could undermine institutional integrity or disrupt ongoing assessments.
As of now, no formal probe has been initiated against Rafizi, and no enforcement measures have been taken, the MACC confirmed.
