Federal Government Takes Firm Stance on Deviant Teachings, Awaits State Reports – Marhamah

KOTA BHARU: The federal government has assured that the issue of deviant religious movements will not be taken lightly and will be addressed based on verified reports from state authorities.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Marhamah Rosli, said the government would first obtain detailed information from the relevant states before taking further action.

She explained that religious affairs fall under state jurisdiction, while the federal government plays a coordinating and supportive role.

“We need complete and accurate reports from the states. Proper verification is essential to ensure that any action taken is fair and effective.

“This matter involves faith and religious integrity, so it must be handled carefully,” she said.

She was speaking after officiating the Ihya’ Ramadan 1447H Programme and the launch of the YAATIM Education Programme 2026 in Kota Bharu.

Coordinated Approach to Safeguard Faith

Marhamah stressed that relevant government agencies are continuously monitoring developments related to religious deviations.

She said information received from state authorities would be thoroughly assessed before enforcement, rehabilitation, or educational measures are implemented.

“The federal government will continue to support state efforts in preventing the spread of misleading teachings that could disrupt social harmony,” she added.

Johor Monitoring Eight Groups

Earlier, Johor Islamic Affairs Committee chairman, Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid, confirmed that eight deviant groups have been identified in the state, although they are currently inactive.

He said all the groups are under close surveillance by the Jabatan Agama Islam Negeri Johor.

The groups include Hizbut Tahrir, Shia, Wahabi, Milah Abraham, Si Hulk, GISBH, Qadiani, and The Ahmadi Religion of Place and Light.

The government reiterated that continuous monitoring, education, and awareness programmes will remain key strategies in protecting the religious faith of Muslims in Malaysia.
