GPS to Hold First-Ever General Assembly on April 19, Focus on Sarawak 2030 Development Agenda
KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will make history by holding its first general assembly since its formation in 2019, scheduled for April 19.
GPS Secretary-General, Alexander Nanta Linggi, said representatives from all four component parties will be invited, namely the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Parti Demokratik Progresif (PDP) and the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP).
He said an organising committee will be established and chaired by Sarawak Deputy Premier, Douglas Uggah Embas, to oversee preparations.
“Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah is expected to convene several meetings soon to coordinate the organising committees. The number of delegates has yet to be finalised,” he said.
He was speaking after attending the GPS Supreme Leadership Council meeting chaired by Sarawak Premier, Abang Johari Tun Openg.
PCDS 2030 to Anchor Assembly Agenda
Alexander said the assembly is expected to centre on the theme “Post-COVID Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) Achievements,” which outlines Sarawak’s long-term development vision.
He added that detailed programmes, schedules, and key discussion topics are still being finalised and will be announced in due course.
“The Premier has emphasised that the assembly will focus on achieving the goals set under PCDS 2030,” he said.
GPS Ready for Any Political Scenario
When asked whether the convention is linked to preparations for the upcoming state election, Alexander said GPS remains ready for any eventuality.
However, he stressed that the main objective of the gathering is to strengthen internal unity and strategic planning.
“This is the first general assembly since GPS was launched. It serves as an important platform for consolidation and future direction,” he said.
