Syatilla Melvin Says Acting Career Is on Pause, Not Over, as Family Takes Priority
KUALA LUMPUR: Actress and entrepreneur Syatilla Melvin has clarified that she has not retired from acting, stressing that she is merely taking a temporary break from the industry to focus on raising her children and spending more time with her family.
The 35-year-old actress, whose full name is Siti Nur Syatilla Amirol Melvin, said acting remains an important part of her life, but her current priority is creating a stable and balanced family environment while her children are still young.
Speaking to Utusan Malaysia during the MR. DIY Club media event at MYTOWN Shopping Centre, Syatilla said she continues to receive numerous acting offers but has yet to feel the desire to return to filming.
According to her, the decision is a personal one and is not driven by a lack of opportunities within the entertainment industry.
She explained that managing her own business while working from home provides greater flexibility, allowing her to organise her schedule around her children’s needs and spend more quality time with her family.
Although she chose not to elaborate on the personal reasons behind her decision, Syatilla said she is content with the pace of her current lifestyle and believes it is the right choice for this stage of her life.
The actress emphasised that her absence from television and film should not be interpreted as a permanent departure from the industry.
Instead, she described it as placing “a comma” rather than “a full stop” on her acting career, signalling that she intends to return when the timing is more suitable.
Syatilla said she hopes to resume acting once her children are older and when her husband, actor Shaheizy Sam, is able to take on more childcare responsibilities, allowing them to share family commitments more evenly.
She believes such an arrangement would make it easier for her to balance professional commitments with family life without compromising either responsibility.
Looking ahead to her eventual return, Syatilla revealed that she intends to maintain certain personal boundaries when selecting future acting roles.
She said she no longer wishes to accept scenes involving physical contact with male actors and admitted that even standing closely beside unrelated men on set now feels uncomfortable to her.
Rather than placing others in an awkward position or accepting roles that conflict with her personal convictions, she believes it is better to step back temporarily until suitable projects become available.
For now, Syatilla remains focused on entrepreneurship and motherhood while leaving the door open for a future return to acting under conditions that align with her family priorities and personal values.
