CHINT, Octopus Energy Forge Strategic Partnership to Expand Global Clean Energy and Digital Power Solutions

LONDON: Chinese energy technology company CHINT and UK-based renewable energy group Octopus Energy have signed two strategic cooperation agreements aimed at accelerating the deployment of clean energy infrastructure and advancing digital energy technologies, marking a significant step in their efforts to support the global energy transition.

The agreements establish a long-term framework for collaboration across renewable energy development, engineering services and Virtual Power Plant (VPP) technologies, combining CHINT’s manufacturing and engineering capabilities with Octopus Energy’s expertise in digital energy systems and renewable energy management.

The first memorandum of cooperation focuses on expanding renewable energy infrastructure projects, particularly across Europe.

Under the agreement, CHINT subsidiaries Astronergy Europe GmbH, CHINT Power Systems Poland Sp. z o.o. and CHINT Solar Poland Spółka z ograniczoną odpowiedzialnością will work alongside Octopus Energy to develop renewable energy projects using an integrated portfolio of technologies.

CHINT will supply photovoltaic (PV) modules, solar inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transformers, smart meters, electrical cables and electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions. The company may also provide Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services on a project-by-project basis to support the design, construction and delivery of renewable energy facilities.

The companies said combining integrated hardware, engineering expertise and renewable energy services is expected to improve project efficiency while delivering scalable and reliable clean energy infrastructure.

The second memorandum focuses on digital energy innovation within mainland China through cooperation between Chint Anneng Digital Power (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd. and Octopus Energy Group Limited.

The partnership will explore opportunities in Virtual Power Plant development, including distributed energy resource aggregation, demand response programmes and intelligent energy management systems designed to improve grid flexibility and optimise electricity consumption.

By combining CHINT Anneng’s understanding of China’s domestic energy market with Octopus Energy’s international experience in operating smart energy platforms and Virtual Power Plants, the companies intend to evaluate new business models and pilot projects that support a more resilient, digitalised and decentralised electricity system.

CHINT Group Director and CHINT Green Energy Chairman Dr. Chuan Lu described the agreements as an important milestone in expanding the company’s international partnerships and strengthening innovation in the global clean energy sector.

He said the collaboration would leverage both companies’ complementary strengths in equipment manufacturing, engineering services and digital energy technologies to create long-term value for customers while supporting worldwide decarbonisation efforts.

Octopus Energy founder and Chief Executive Officer Greg Jackson said the future energy system would require both advanced hardware and intelligent software, adding that the partnership combines both capabilities at scale.

He said the collaboration would support renewable infrastructure expansion across Europe while simultaneously advancing Virtual Power Plant innovation in China, reinforcing the role of digital technologies in building cleaner and more flexible energy systems.

Building on the newly signed agreements, both companies said they intend to deepen cooperation across renewable energy infrastructure, engineering services and digital energy innovation, with the shared objective of accelerating decarbonisation and supporting the development of a more sustainable global energy industry.
