Six NGOs in Sepang Lodge Police Reports Over Alleged Insult Against Selangor Sultan

SEPANG, May 1 — Six non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from Sepang have lodged police reports calling for a thorough investigation and firm action against an individual accused of insulting Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on social media.

The move reflects growing concern over content deemed disrespectful toward the royal institution, which many view as a key pillar of unity and stability within the state and nation.

The group’s spokesperson, Al Rasyid Ab Rani, said the reports were filed at the Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Sepang to urge authorities to take appropriate legal action.

He emphasised that the monarchy plays a significant role not only as a symbol of sovereignty but also as the head of Islam in the state, making it an institution that must be respected and safeguarded.

“Loyalty to the King and country is a fundamental principle enshrined in the Rukun Negara. It is essential to maintaining social harmony and national stability,” he said.

The NGOs involved include Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia, Warisan Empayar Dengkil, Persatuan Silat Tempur Langkah Timah, Komuniti Belia Taman Anggerik and Amal Rief Malaysia (ARIF) Sepang.

Collectively, they warned that actions perceived as insulting the monarchy could have serious implications for social cohesion, particularly in a multicultural and multi-religious society.

Al Rasyid also referenced a previous royal decree concerning pig farming issues, highlighting the Sultan’s role in addressing matters affecting public welfare and community interests.

He reiterated the group’s support for the Sultan’s stance and called on all parties to refrain from actions that could provoke tension.

Meanwhile, PEKIDA Sepang deputy chairman Sabudin Jantan said six police reports have been filed so far, with more potentially to follow if the situation escalates.

He stressed that early intervention is crucial to prevent the issue from affecting public order.

“If left unchecked, such incidents could undermine social harmony. The royal institution must be preserved as a foundation of national stability,” he said.

Authorities are expected to investigate the case under relevant laws governing communication and public order, while members of the public have been reminded to exercise caution and responsibility when using social media platforms.
