GSF 2.0 Holds Course: Participants Remain Committed to Gaza Mission Amid Mounting Challenges

HULU LANGAT, May 1 — The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 remains firmly on course as its participants reaffirm their commitment to continue the humanitarian mission to Gaza, despite facing mounting security challenges and external restrictions.

Director-General of the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre, Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby, said the morale among participants remains strong, even after incidents involving interception and disruption of the vessel convoy.

Out of the 22 vessels involved, 21 have been accounted for and are reported to be safe, while one vessel has lost communication and is believed to have suffered damage, possibly linked to sabotage.

“All vessels are currently taking precautionary shelter in Greek waters. Participants are safe and remain prepared to continue the journey,” he said during a special press briefing.

He explained that the next phase will involve strategic discussions to determine how best to proceed, including potential route adjustments and coordination with additional groups awaiting deployment from Turkiye.

Sani Araby emphasised that GSF 2.0 is more than a maritime journey — it is a humanitarian initiative grounded in international law and universal moral principles.

“We believe this mission is both legally sound and morally justified. Participants are fully aware of the risks, yet remain committed to its objectives,” he said.

Earlier reports indicated that 175 activists, including 10 Malaysians, were detained after their vessels were intercepted approximately 80 nautical miles from Greek waters.

The incident has raised broader concerns over the safety of humanitarian missions, as well as the principles of freedom of navigation in international waters.

In response, Sani Araby called on the Malaysian government to intensify diplomatic efforts to secure the immediate release of the detained activists.

He also stressed the importance of a unified national stance, urging both government and opposition to work together in addressing the issue.

“Sustained diplomatic pressure is crucial to ensuring the safety of participants and the continuation of the mission,” he said.

He added that GSF 2.0 represents a broader message of global solidarity with the people of Gaza, making it a mission that extends beyond humanitarian aid to reflect international concern and collective responsibility.
