JAPEN Director-General Pays Tribute to Mentor During Veteran Appreciation Visit

BATU PAHAT, June 27 — The Department of Information Malaysia (JAPEN) reaffirmed its commitment to honouring the contributions of retired officers when its Director-General, Erwin Khairul Ahmad, paid a special visit to veteran officer Abdul Razak Mohammed at his residence in Batu Pahat on Saturday.

The visit formed part of JAPEN’s “Lawatan Kasih” initiative, reflecting the department’s appreciation for former officers who played significant roles in strengthening the organisation and nurturing future generations of information officers.

Abdul Razak dedicated 37 years of service to JAPEN, beginning his career in 1982 before retiring in 2019 as the District Information Officer (PPD) for Kluang. Throughout his distinguished career, he served at the Johor State Information Department headquarters and in several districts, including Kulai, Kota Tinggi, Batu Pahat and Kluang, as well as in Terengganu.

Widely respected as an accomplished departmental speaker, Abdul Razak was also known for his ability to deliver spontaneous traditional Malay pantun during public engagements, earning admiration from colleagues and audiences alike.

During the visit, Erwin described Abdul Razak as more than a former colleague, calling him one of the mentors who shaped his career, particularly in the field of public speaking.

“He was one of my teachers and mentors in the Department of Information. I learned a great deal of knowledge and experience from him, especially in public speaking,” Erwin said.
Erwin also expressed his gratitude for Abdul Razak’s decades of dedication and service to the department.

Although Abdul Razak is currently facing health challenges following a stroke, he continues to display remarkable mental sharpness. During the visit, he recalled numerous memories from his years of service and even entertained guests with spontaneous pantun, demonstrating that his passion for communication and public engagement remains strong.

JAPEN said the visit symbolises the department’s appreciation for the sacrifices and contributions made by its veteran officers, whose commitment laid a strong foundation for the organisation.

The initiative also reflects JAPEN’s leadership values of recognising the contributions of previous generations while ensuring that their knowledge, experience and spirit continue to inspire current and future members of the department.

The department noted that preserving the legacy of veteran officers remains an important part of strengthening institutional continuity and fostering a culture of respect, mentorship and service excellence within JAPEN.
