Short Film ‘Yes, My Father Was a Security Guard’ Tells Emotional Story of Aliff Syukri’s Childhood
KUALA LUMPUR — Entrepreneur Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri has released a short film titled Yes, My Father Was a Security Guard, a project inspired by his personal childhood experiences and dedicated to the memory of his late father in conjunction with the Aidilfitri season.
The film portrays Aliff’s early life growing up in a modest family where his father worked as a security guard at a factory to support the household.
According to Aliff, the film was not created to promote his business ventures but instead serves as a heartfelt tribute to the man who played a significant role in shaping his journey to success.
He said his father’s sacrifices were among the main motivations that pushed him to work harder in pursuit of a better future.
Aliff admitted that during his younger years he sometimes felt embarrassed about his family’s humble background.
However, those experiences eventually became an important turning point that strengthened his determination to improve his life and build a better future for his family.
He hopes the story portrayed in the film will inspire others not to feel ashamed of their beginnings.
Aliff believes that everyone starts their journey from different circumstances, and the challenges faced along the way can become powerful motivation to achieve success.
He explained that his efforts over the years were never solely for his own benefit but also for the well-being and future of his children.
Choosing a short film as the medium to convey his message, Aliff said he believes storytelling through film can evoke deeper emotional responses among viewers.
Through the project, he hopes audiences will reflect on the importance of appreciating their parents’ sacrifices and the values of love and gratitude within families.
After more than two decades in business, Aliff said he felt it was the right time to share something meaningful with society.
The film’s director, Bobby Husaini, said the story resonates strongly with many people because it reflects realities experienced by families in everyday life.
He explained that after hearing Aliff’s story, he immediately felt it deserved to be adapted into a film to highlight the importance of honouring and appreciating one’s parents.
Bobby also noted that actor Azhan Rani was chosen for the lead role partly because his facial features resemble those of Aliff’s late father.
The short film also features other actors including Mikael Noah, Niezam Zaidi and Megat Sharizal.
With its emotional narrative and relatable theme, the film aims to leave a lasting impression on audiences by portraying a son’s journey toward success while honouring the sacrifices made by his father.
