Police Seek Witnesses in Fatal PLUS Highway Crash Involving Car and Lorry

PETALING JAYA: Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist investigations into a fatal road accident involving a car and a lorry at Km 407.1 of the North-South Expressway heading north near here on Monday.

Authorities said they received information about the incident at approximately 2.25am, with initial findings indicating that the crash occurred slightly earlier, around 2am.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Ibrahim Husin said preliminary investigations revealed that a Perodua Myvi driven by a 21-year-old local man lost control before skidding and crashing into a metal road barrier on the left side of the highway.

“The vehicle subsequently collided with the left side of a Volvo lorry driven by a 37-year-old man travelling from Bukit Beruntung towards Tapah,” he said in a statement.

The impact of the collision caused the car driver, who was reported to be a trader, to be thrown onto the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Police confirmed that the victim’s body has been taken to the forensic unit at Hospital Kuala Kubu Bharu for a post-mortem examination.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Police are urging members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant information to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Khairul Salleh Abdull Rahman, at 03-6064 1222 or visit the nearest police station.

Authorities stressed that public cooperation is crucial in establishing the sequence of events leading to the crash, as well as ensuring that appropriate action can be taken based on the findings.

The incident once again highlights the importance of road safety, particularly during late-night travel when visibility and driver alertness may be reduced.
