PM Anwar: Malaysia will continue speaking out globally despite pressure

KOTA BHARU, April 19 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia will remain firm in expressing its views on the global stage, even when its stance may not align with major world powers.

He noted that this approach is reflected in Malaysia’s position on the West Asian conflict, particularly in relation to the United States-backed Israeli attacks on Iran.

Principled stance on international issues

During discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Malaysia conveyed its support for Iran’s sovereignty and condemned the military actions that resulted in civilian casualties.

Condolences extended to victims

Malaysia also expressed sympathy over the loss of lives, including religious figures, military personnel and civilians such as schoolchildren.

Criticism of global response

Anwar highlighted what he described as an imbalance in international reactions, noting that similar incidents elsewhere might draw stronger and more sustained condemnation.

Call for equal concern in global affairs

He emphasised that all human tragedies deserve equal attention and urged the global community to adopt a more consistent and fair approach in addressing conflicts.
