Malaysia Opens 2025 Tax e-Filing: Mandatory Online Submission Through MyTax Begins March 1
PUTRAJAYA, May 1 — The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has confirmed that its e-Filing service for the submission of income tax returns for the 2025 assessment year will be available starting March 1, with taxpayers required to submit their declarations electronically.
The move forms part of LHDN’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s digital tax system while ensuring a more efficient and streamlined filing process.
MyTax portal centralises tax filing process
In its official statement, LHDN said all taxpayers, including individuals and employers, must submit their Income Tax Return Forms through the MyTax portal, which serves as the main platform for tax-related services.
Users can log in directly through the MyTax website or access the e-Filing feature via the LHDN official portal under the ezHasil service.
The transition to a fully digital platform is intended to improve efficiency, reduce administrative delays and enhance compliance among taxpayers.
Registered tax agents are also required to submit returns through the Tax Agent e-Filing System (TAeF), which is integrated into the MyTax platform.
National ID number now standard for tax identification
LHDN also announced that the national identity card number will now be used as the primary identification reference for MyKad, MyPR and MyKAS holders in all tax matters.
This includes logging into the MyTax portal and completing tax submissions.
The measure aims to standardise taxpayer identification and improve overall system security.
Military and police personnel who previously relied on service numbers must update their Individual Digital Certificates using their national identity card numbers to continue accessing the system.
Penalties await those who fail to comply
The tax authority warned that failure to submit tax returns within the stipulated deadline or failure to declare actual income could result in legal action.
Such offences fall under Subsection 112(1) of the Income Tax Act 1967, which allows penalties to be imposed on non-compliant taxpayers.
LHDN urged taxpayers to fulfil their obligations promptly to avoid enforcement measures.
Taxpayers urged to prepare early to avoid delays
To ensure a smooth filing process, taxpayers are encouraged to prepare their financial records and supporting documents ahead of time.
This includes checking income statements, receipts, invoices and other relevant documents to ensure accurate reporting.
Proper preparation can help minimise errors and prevent last-minute complications.
The opening of the e-Filing system underscores LHDN’s continued commitment to enhancing digital tax services while making the filing process more accessible, efficient and reliable for Malaysians.
