MACC Clarifies Trace Notice for Tun Daim’s Children Is Procedural, Not a Wanted List
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has clarified that the Notice to Trace Individuals issued for the children of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin is not a wanted list but a procedural step to assist ongoing investigations.
In a statement, the MACC said the notice was issued solely to locate the individuals and secure their cooperation.
The commission stressed that the notice should not be interpreted as a form of punishment.
Notice issued to facilitate investigation
The MACC said the action was taken after the individuals failed to respond to official instructions.
“The Notice to Trace Individuals is not punitive and is not a wanted list,” the commission said.
It added that the notice is part of standard investigative procedures.
The MACC stressed that the move was not intended to embarrass anyone.
Multiple extensions were granted before notice issued
The commission said several opportunities and extensions had been provided.
The notice was issued only after repeated non-compliance.
The MACC said reasonable time was given for cooperation.
Investigation linked to Pandora Papers disclosures
The investigation began following the Pandora Papers revelations in 2021.
These disclosures involved offshore assets linked to Daim and associates.
The MACC started investigations in 2023 under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009.
Six months were given for asset declaration compliance.
Further investigation launched after new information received
The MACC said new information from foreign authorities led to expanded investigations.
The commission reiterated that everyone is subject to the law.
It urged the individuals to come forward and assist investigators.
The MACC said cooperation is essential to complete the investigation.
