KTMB Adds 186 Extra Train Services for Aidiladha and School Holidays

More Than 58,000 Additional Seats Prepared to Meet Passenger Demand

KUALA LUMPUR — Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will introduce 186 additional train services involving the Electric Train Service (ETS) and EMU Plus in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration and school holidays from May 22 to June 7.

According to KTMB, the additional services will provide 58,380 extra seats to accommodate the expected surge in passenger demand during the holiday period.

KTMB said tickets for the additional train services will go on sale starting noon tomorrow through the KITS Style application, KTMB’s official website and ticket kiosks at selected stations.

For the KL Sentral–Padang Besar–KL Sentral route, a total of 15,702 tickets will be available for journeys between May 22 and 26, May 29 and 31, as well as June 4 and 7.

Meanwhile, the KL Sentral–Butterworth–KL Sentral and KL Sentral–Ipoh–KL Sentral routes will each offer 7,584 tickets during the same travel periods.

KTMB will also provide 18,960 tickets for the KL Sentral–JB Sentral–KL Sentral route covering journeys from May 22 to 26, May 29 to 31 and June 1 to 7.

For the Klang–Ipoh–Klang EMU Plus route, 9,180 tickets will be offered for travel between May 22 and 24, May 29 and 31, as well as June 5 and 7.

Azlan Shah Al Bakri, group chief executive officer of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad, said public response to previous additional train services during the Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive seasons had been highly encouraging.

According to him, routes involving the Johor Bahru sector recorded among the highest passenger demand.

He added that the government’s Road to Rail campaign had also positively encouraged more people to use public transportation, especially railway services.

“The increase in demand reflects passengers’ confidence in the national rail service, which is safer, more comfortable and more efficient,” he said in a statement today.

In a related development, KTMB said ticket sales for the Ekspres Lambaian Aidiladha (ELA) service to the East Coast, announced on April 24, had also received positive response.

So far, 447 out of the 912 tickets offered have already been sold.

KTMB is also offering a 30 per cent discount for the ELA 1029 train service from Tumpat to KL Sentral under the Superior Seater category.

The promotion involves 274 limited seats beginning May 11, with ticket prices starting from RM56 compared to the original fare of RM80.

The additional train services are expected to help ease passenger movement during the festive and school holiday season while also reducing traffic congestion on major highways.
