IPCC Scientist Michael Taylor Warns Climate Change Already Disrupting Caribbean Life, Calls for Immediate Solutions
NEW YORK, March 2 — Caribbean climate scientist and IPCC author Professor Michael A. Taylor has warned that climate change is already disrupting daily life across the region, urging communities to act quickly to strengthen their resilience.
Speaking on the Net Zero Speaks programme, Taylor said rising temperatures, water shortages, flooding, and coastal erosion are no longer distant threats but present realities.
He stressed that urgent action is needed.
Night temperatures rising faster, increasing risks
Taylor said one of the most concerning trends is the rapid increase in night-time temperatures.
He explained that nights are no longer providing the cooling effect communities depend on.
This increases health risks.
It also affects water and environmental stability.
Simple and affordable solutions available
Taylor introduced his “Triple C” approach.
It focuses on conserving, capturing, and caring for water.
He also recommended increasing shade and improving ventilation.
He said these measures can reduce climate risks.
They can also improve living conditions.
Community action essential for climate resilience
Taylor said climate action must begin locally.
He explained that small community projects can create meaningful change.
He stressed that immediate action will determine future resilience.
