Honda Documentary Reveals Engineering Partnership Powering USA Bobsled/Skeleton Ahead of Milano Cortina 2026
MARYSVILLE, Ohio — As momentum builds toward the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, Honda has released a short documentary offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at how automotive engineering is being harnessed to sharpen the competitive edge of USA Bobsled/Skeleton (USABS).
The film chronicles an intensive six-month collaboration between Honda engineers and elite American winter athletes, showcasing how precision testing and aerodynamic science are being applied far beyond the racetrack.
Precision Gains in a Sport of Margins
Inside the Honda Automotive Laboratories of Ohio (HALO) wind tunnel, engineers and athletes worked together to fine-tune sled dynamics, athlete positioning and airflow efficiency. In a discipline where races are decided by fractions of a second, even minimal drag reduction can translate into meaningful time gains.
The documentary illustrates how automotive research tools — traditionally used to optimise vehicle performance — were adapted to analyse wind resistance on bobsled athletes in full racing posture. The objective: unlock measurable improvements before the Olympic season intensifies.
“When you see the engineering power behind this partnership, it changes your mindset,” said Aron McGuire, CEO of USA Bobsled/Skeleton. “It pushes you to imagine how much further performance can go.”
From Laboratory Data to Olympic Ice
Insights gathered at HALO were not confined to the wind tunnel. The findings directly informed fall training sessions at the Utah Olympic Park Track in Park City, where athletes tested refinements in real racing conditions ahead of the World Cup circuit and Olympic qualification events.
The partnership demonstrates how data-driven adjustments — from body angles to equipment configuration — can influence split times and race consistency under high-pressure competition.
Team USA Olympian Kaysha Love described the collaboration as transformative.
“When a company like Honda invests in your dream at this level, it creates belief,” she said. “Now we’re not just training — we’re competing with a technological edge.”
Racing Heritage Meets Winter Sport
Honda’s deep roots in motorsports, along with its premium brand Acura, form the backbone of the initiative. The company’s culture of constant refinement and performance testing has long defined its racing programmes — and that same ethos now supports Olympic ambitions.
Mike Unger, director of the HALO Wind Tunnel, said the collaboration reflects Honda’s competitive DNA.
“We always challenge ourselves to win. Bringing that spirit into winter sports aligns perfectly with who we are.”
Honda serves as the Official Automotive Partner of Team USA for Milano Cortina 2026 and the LA28 Games, while Acura partners directly with USA Bobsled/Skeleton.
As the countdown to Italy continues, the documentary underscores a powerful message: Olympic success is not only forged on ice — it is engineered in laboratories, refined in data and driven by collaboration long before the starting push.
