Former SCIB Director Pleads Not Guilty to Submitting False Statement to Bursa Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR — A former director of Sarawak Consolidated Industries Berhad (SCIB) pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of causing a false statement to be submitted to Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad concerning the company’s affairs in 2021.

The accused, Rosland Othman, 52, is alleged to have caused inaccurate information to be included in the company’s document titled Interim Financial Report on Consolidated Results for the Quarter Ended 30 June 2021.

According to the charge, the statement was submitted to Bursa Malaysia at Exchange Square in Bukit Kewangan on September 30, 2021.

The offence was framed under Section 369(b)(B) read together with Section 367(1) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007.

If convicted, Rosland could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years as well as a maximum fine of RM3 million.

Sessions Court judge Azrul Darus granted the accused bail of RM500,000 with one surety.

The court also ordered Rosland to surrender his passport and to report to the Securities Commission Malaysia headquarters once every month until the case is concluded.

Rosland, who is the husband of actress Miera Leyana, was represented by lawyer S. Shastidaran.

The prosecution was led by Securities Commission deputy public prosecutor Hashley Tajudin.

The court fixed May 7 for the next case mention.
